Start the New Year Right with Dentrix

Start the New Year Right with Dentrix

The New Year rang in with the unknowns of a new fiscal policy and the impact it would have on businesses and individuals. Even the specific guidelines for the new medical device tax were not clear. When faced with uncertainty, it helps to focus on the things you can control. So as you plan for 2013, ask yourself:

  • Have we set up our business goals in Dentrix and are we tracking them in the Dentrix Practice Advisor?
  • Are we utilizing the Dentrix tools that can help us save time and boost productivity while offering great patient care?
  • Are we aware of the new CDT coding changes and are we certain we are not making common coding mistakes?

If you need help in any of these areas, Dentrix is here to help.

Practice Goals
Studies show that the likelihood of achieving a goal increases over 60% when it is written down. Is your practice using the Dentrix Practice Advisor and Daily Huddle Reports to track progress toward your goals on a daily and monthly basis? If not, you can learn more about setting up the Practice Advisor by viewing the Getting Started with Practice Advisor - Tip Sheet. Or, sign up for the Profitability Coaching Program and your coach will help you customize these reports for setting and tracking your goals. If saving time is a goal in 2013, be sure to discuss as a team how best to implement the Dentrix Daily Huddle Report. Depending on the size of the practice, most offices say they are saving between 30 and 90 minutes a day by utilizing the Dentrix Daily Huddle. This valuable time savings helps practices focus more on offering great patient care. Because the Daily Huddle Report is customizable depending on a team member’s responsibilities, it can be set up to show the most important and relevant information about patients coming into the practice.

Utilizing the Right Tools
Have you ever found yourself saying, "I know there is an easier way," or "We are not using all of the valuable tools that could help us"? If the answer is yes, you are not alone. In running a busy, successful practice, when do you have time to expand your Dentrix skills?

In the health and fitness world, people hire personal trainers for a wide array of reasons. Sometimes it is to get tips on the best exercises for their fitness goals and body, and other times it is to learn the proper form for certain exercises. People also hire trainers because they know they will reach their goals better and faster if they have an expert to help push them a little bit harder in certain areas and give them specific tips on how to take their fitness level to the next level. Dentrix Profitability Coaching accomplishes the same thing. We help practices learn the right tools to integrate best practices into their daily routines. And while the coaching program has a set curriculum, we know one-size-fits-all has its limitations. This is why the coaching program looks at each practice’s numbers and goals and helps tailor the coaching program to meet its unique needs.

Dr. Thomas Flanders in Delhi, New York, said this about the coaching program: "The tips, shortcuts and reports that the Dentrix Profitability Coaching Program helped us with has resulted in immediate improvements in our office. These changes have also resulted in immediate increased profits."

New CDT Coding Changes
Dr. Charles Blair, renowned insurance coding expert, says, "With the changes PPOs are having on the dental industry, the average dental practice will need to produce more if they hope to get the same income as previous years." Dentrix was fortunate enough to have Dr. Blair conduct a webinar titled "The Future of Dentistry and Expert Coding Advice" on January 4, 2013, and he mentioned that there are 84 CDT code changes for 2013: 35 new codes, 37 revised codes and 12 deleted codes. While the codes were not updated regularly in the past, they will now be released annually.

Does your practice have a coding advisor resource to ensure you are coding correctly? If not, Dr. Charles Blair’s book, "Coding with Confidence," and the online version, "Practice Booster," are worth investigating. You can order these resources on our website. When you order Dr. Blair’s Practice Booster program from Henry Schein Dental, you will receive a 13-month subscription for the price of 12 months. Practice Booster has even more coding detail than the book and also includes a monthly newsletter. With the changes in PPOs, medical device tax and coding changes, this newsletter can be a valuable resource to your practice.

As you plan for the new year, let Dentrix help you. Be sure to educate yourself about the CDT coding changes for 2013 and coding tips, set up your goals in the Practice Advisor to track your daily and month progress with the Practice Advisor and Daily Huddle Reports and sign up for the Profitability Coaching Program to help ensure your practice is using the valuable tools in Dentrix to increase productivity, profitability and efficiency.
