Assigning Patient Education to Procedure Codes

Presenting compelling patient education topics helps your patients understand the treatment you are proposing to them in their treatment plans. When patients understand what the treatment is and how it will benefit them, they are more likely to accept proposed treatment plans. The Dentrix Presenter with Guru Libraries gives you several professional patient education images and movies in four different categories: hygiene, restorative, specialty, and pediatric.

Because Guru Libraries integrates directly with Dentrix Presenter, Dentrix automatically assigns the most common procedure codes to many of the patient education topics in that installed library. Then, when you treatment plan a procedure in the patient chart or treatment planner, the appropriate topics are automatically added to that patient’s case presentation in the presenter.

As you use Dentrix Presenter with Guru Libraries, you may find that you want to customize the procedure code associations for certain topics. You can view, add, and remove the procedure code associations for any patient education topic in Dentrix at any time.

To associate a procedure with a patient education topic:

1. Open the treatment planner.
2. In the navigation panel, click Case Presentation Setup.

3. Click the Patient Education Topics tab and select the topic you want to customize, then click Edit Topic.

4. Under Associated Procedure Codes, select a procedure, then click Add to include that procedure code in the list box.
5. Repeat that process as needed and click OK to save the changes.
